The forecast looked a bit uncertain, but it didn’t keep away 84 excited, mellow golfers ready for a great day of golf and over 30 volunteers ready to make sure they got their amazing LW DFS experience.

Sign-in began at 7:00am with a continental breakfast, sponsored by Sam’s Club, and Bloody Mary bar, sponsored by Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Dave’s Last Resort, and Costco. At 7:45am, all golfers and volunteers headed out to the 18th hole where the Palm Beach County FOOLS Organization provided their vintage ladder truck for the ball drop. (Three very happy purchasers of balls went home with half of the nearly $1300 pot.) At 8:00am, the golfers teed off, on what turned out to be a perfect morning. Hole #3 provided a chance to “Beat the Pro,” Matt McCarthy, hole #11 provided a Hole-In-One 19’ Island Reef boat, compliments of Marine Connection, that, unfortunately, no one took home, and hole #14 provided an opportunity for golfers to use the “cannon” to try to shoot their ball closest to the hole. Aaron Coven, one of our Silver Sponsors, was only feet from the pin and won an all expenses paid 6-night, 7-day getaway.

The rain held off and the golfers finished their game. Everyone enjoyed a quality lunch provided by Tony, the food and beverage manager, at the course. Mr. Cantley spoke regarding the history of the tournament and how I was nominated to become the new chairperson for the year. There was a raffle, complete with over 25 prizes from outstanding businesses and a silent auction with just as many prizes. Collectively, the two raised, in the ballpark of, $3,000 for LW DFS. The net profit for the tournament is $12,714.93

The success of the tournament was due to the help of the countless volunteers, raffle and silent auction prize donors, Palm Beach National Golf Club, and, of course, the golfers. Early congratulations to the members of the Class of 2018 who will benefit from the tournament proceeds.

by: Meredith Abrams, Tournament Chairperson On Saturday, October 28th, the Lake Worth Dollars for Scholars, in partnership with Lake Worth High School Alumni Foundation, held the 16th Annual LW DFS Golf Tournament at Palm Beach National Golf Club in Western Lake Worth.
